STM Music

At St Thomas More, we understand that music can make a powerful contribution to the education and development of our pupils. Music is a fantastic creative outlet for our children, and we love nothing more than to see children demonstrating creativity and self-expression. Our extensive curriculum, delivered by external provider Junior Jam, gives children the opportunity to further their understanding of music through the study of; composition, song writing, singing, tuned and untuned percussion instruments.

Outside of our music curriculum, children at St Thomas More are given the opportunity to sing during hymn practice, celebration of mass, and have had opportunities to participate in after-school choirs. St Thomas More celebrates music and the arts during our liturgies which are performed twice a year, and the school provides opportunities for children to showcase their talents in activities such as our summer talent showcases and during visits to church.

In Foundation Stage, children love performing on the ‘music stage’ where they are able to explore different musical instruments and the sounds made. Children are also taken to the school’s nature garden to create musical instruments using natural materials, and love to perform their musical creations with their classmates. Children playing instruments are encouraged to perform in assemblies and events throughout the year to showcase and celebrate their talents.
